For your consideration is a wonderful Victorian photograph album. The pages of these are usually in tatters on the inside, but that is not the case here. There are 16 pages with single frames measuring 3 7/8" x 5 3/8", accommodating 32 photos. There are 2 pages with four frames-each measuring 2" x 3 3/8", accomodating 16 photos. Of those 48 frames, only 6-7 have tears where the photos were not removed carefully enough.
The cover of the album is made of red velvet. It is worn down in areas and will rub off easily, but that just testifies to its age. The decoration on the front is handsome, although not in as good condition as the interior. The chrysanthemum design is lovely. It appears to be made of a celluloid-like product. The shell vase is made of metal and the base of the vase is missing. (I might be tempted to replace the decoration with some other fabulous something, although it would ruin the authenticity of the album.) The edges of the pages are gilt. The clasp is large and functions very well.
All in all, this is a great, old photograph album. If you have a collection of antique photographs, you may want to consider it.
